Why would I want to install apps from unknown sources?
Some apps are not available on the Google Play Store, and instead the developer offers a download link from their website. Google calls these sources, "unknown sources".
Is there a security risk?
Not really. You will always be protected and Google will scan every app installed for you (if you allow it to). It is recommended though that when you are done using the setting you disable it though.
How do I enable app installation from unknown sources?
- Open your device's Settings app
- Navigate to "Security"
- Locate a setting named "Unknown sources". The description of the setting should be "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources", or something similar.
- Turn the switch on. You will see a message reading "Your phone and personal data are more vulnerable to attack by apps from unknown sources. You agree you are solely responsible for any damage to your phone or loss of data that may result from using these apps.", or something similar.
- Click "OK" after reading the message.
- That's it!
